2012 saw one of the most competitive fields short listed for BBC Sports Personality of the Year. With the London Olympics creating so many British heroes, all twelve nominees were genuine candidates to take the prestigious title.

It was wonderful to see Bradley Wiggins rise to win the vote of the British public for his achievements throughout 2012, including winning; Paris-Nice, the Tour de Romandie, the Criterium du Dauphine, the Tour de France and Gold in the time trial at London 2012.

Bradley won over 30% of the 1.6 million telephone votes recorded (492,064 votes in total) beating Olympic heptathlon champion Jessica Ennis into second and US Open winner Andy Murray into third.
