On 26th July 2012, Opus welcomed Yao Ming, one of China’s most recognizable athletes and retired NBA basketball star, to spend the day with us.
During these Olympics, Yao will be in London commentating on the basketball television coverage for CCTV, instead of showcasing his talents on the court with Team China. But besides fulfuling his responsibility as commentator, Yao has also come to London with an affection to retrace his fathers path, who is also a former basketball star in China, and had been part of a team photoshoot at Embankment and the Houses of Parliament in the 1970s.
Opus was delighted to have the opportunity to recreate these photos for Yao, and they will be featured in the upcoming The Official Yao Ming Opus project. The shoot was conducted at many of London’s iconic landmarks, following a route from St Paul’s Cathedral to Queen Elizabeth Tower. Before the shoots, Yao had a visit to Opus London office, where Yao signed signature sheets for The Official Yao Ming Opus and met with Opus staff. The day ended with an exclusive interview with him at the Playboy Club.
