About the Opus
Journey to Makkah Opus is a unique record of the Hajj, the most important pilgrimage in Islam. It will reflect the experience of millions of Muslims all over the world who are expected to perform Hajj, one of the five Pillars of Islam, at least once in their lifetime.
This is a very special Opus that the whole world regardless of religion should experience, and one that will enhance a greater understanding between different cultures around the world.Dr Abdulrahman Al Zamil - Chairman Zamil Group, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
During Hajj some three million Muslims travel to the Holy Sites in Makkah to seek repentance for their sins and ask the Creator for the innermost desires of their hearts. Young, old, rich and poor walk side by side in the plain white robes of ihram, indistinguishable in an unstoppable sea of faith. The Official Journey to Makkah Opus will document the enormous challenge of orchestrating such an incredible spiritual journey on a epic scale.
The Official Journey to Makkah Opus is no mere historical gesture, however: it is the definitive testament of the most important time in a Muslim’s life. It will celebrate, enthral and educate for decades to come.
At the heart of The Official Journey to Makkah Opus is the pilgrims themselves. It is people that have the most transformative effect. The Official Journey to Makkah Opus will trace the steps of pilgrims from every corner of the globe; from those who undertake the long, arduous journey on foot over many months, often years, to those who arrive by sea, air or desert road.
Through their faith, Muslims the world over have demonstrated they are a vital part of the global community. The historic accomplishments of Islam in the fields of science, mathematics, chemistry, engineering, astronomy and architecture have shown Muslims to be ingenious pioneers who have helped shape the modern world.
This golden past has transitioned into a robust and relevant present. And foremost among Islam’s achievements on the world stage is the transformative effect of Hajj. The Official Journey to Makkah Opus will also be an educational tool for those who follow the Islamic faith and those who are intrigued by it.
